Today a few of our former students who came and visited me in the school library asked me what had happened to STESMA forever and they wondered why I hadn't put in any new posts. Well, I wish to inform everyone that since we have changed to S.M. Vokasional Seri Manjung, I have started a new blog called VOKASMA TODAY.

This is the first picture I posted when I first created the STESMA forever blog on 14 June, 2006. This was taken during the wedding of my former students, Syful Adly and Salasiah. Pictured with us are his classmates and also the students from the class that I was the Form teacher. For your information, that was the only class in which I was the Form teacher and all the boys and girls of 5Teknik6 1996/1997 are very dear and special to me.

I would like to do the last post for STESMA forever by posting a picture of me with Syful and Salasiah when they visited me during the Hari Raya Holidays this year. See they have given me two very beautiful grand-daughters. I am hoping for more grandchildren from my other students to add to my family.
Likewise, whether we are STESMA or VOKASMA, all those who have passed this way will feel a special fondness and love for this place.

On 1st January, 2010, the name of our school will be changed to Sekolah Menengah Vokasional Seri Manjung. However, the school will still be the same and so will the teachers.

FIRST MEETING FOR 2010 ON LAST DAY OF 2009

The teachers attended the first meeting for the new school year on the last day of 2009. The meeting was chaired by Puan Siti Arfah, the Master Principal of our school. Besides the name change for the school, there will be new challenges for everyone to face come 2010. One of the most obvious is our attempt to get an ISO type of certification.

The dates above were bought by Puan Hajjah Mahnun when she went for her umrah in Saudi Arabia. She gave them to the teachers who came for the meeting this morning.

DOWN MEMORY LANE

This is the second picture I posted in the STESMA forever blog when I first created it in June 2006. Three and a half years have past since. In another 5 days time, our school will no longer be called STESMA and so this blog will see its last entry from me on the 31st of December.

8 MORE DAYS FOR STESMA FOREVER

Our school will cease to become Sekolah Menengah Teknik Seri Manjung or more fondly known as STESMA after 31st December, 2009. Beginning 1st January, 2010 the school will be known officially as Sekolah Menengah Vokasional Seri Manjung or Vokasma. Therefore I cannot continue doing the STESMA forever blog since STESMA will no longer be in existence in another 8 days. Hence I will be doing the last post on the last day of the year.
However, I will be starting a new blog, "VOKASMA Today" on the first day of the new year. So, please support the new blog which is actually a continuation of the old blog.

FESTIVE CHEER FOR CHILDREN OF WELFARE HOME

My friend, Mrs Wong and I, came up with the idea of buying some presents for the children of the Rumah Wawasan in Sitiawan at the beginning of December. So the both of us went and collected money from our friends and relatives. Within four days, the both of us collected RM927. Besides having enough money to buy Christmas presents for the children and their caretakers, we had enough money to treat them to lunch as well. To save money, I asked a favour of Puan Kamariah to help cook the food. My friend's daughter baked two cakes for the children.

We had the gift presentation ceremony cum lunch on Saturday, 19th December. We got Mrs Wong's family, my mum, aunt, Puan Kamariah and her daughter to come along to help out on that day.

For your information, neither Mrs Wong nor I are Christians, both of us are Taoists. The two of us got together with our friends and relatives to bring some cheer to the needy children of the Home.

SUPPORT THE SCHOOL BLOG

I started writing the STESMA forever blog in June 2006. That means that the blog has been in existence for 3 and a half years already. All this while I have been making an effort to continuously keep everyone updated on the goings-on in our school and also about STESMARIANS past and present. However, I have a request to make and that is more of the people from our school visit this blog. Please appreciate the effort and time I spend in doing this blog and visit regularly. The average visit for the blog is only about 50 a day which is quite low considering we have about 600 students and 100 teachers and staff at one time. Let us not forget the former students who studied here and that would amount to a few thousand. So, please do give your support as this blog was created for the people of STESMA.
For your information, I will be writing the last post for the STESMA forever blog on 31st December, 2009.

GOODBYE STESMA, HELLO WORLD

The Form 5 vocational and ICT students sat for their last examination papers this afternoon. This marks the end of their days as students of STESMA and also as secondary school students. After this, the outside world awaits them. Some may continue their studies while others may start working.

For the time being, they can celebrate the end of their secondary school days and have a long break before the results are announced next year.

LOOK WHAT HAPPENED TO OUR PLANTS!!!

I get very upset each time I come back to school during the holidays to find more and more of the herbal plants dying. When the plants are fruiting or growing well, I have people helping themselves to the fruits or herbs (without asking) but during the holidays when Cikgu Shahidan and I are not around, nobody seems to care. However much I water the plants when I am here would not help as the plants need to be constantly watered daily. This is something that shouldn't be.

ONE LAST TIME

Every time the cartridge for the printer in the library runs out of ink, it is Sharveen who helps to refill it. I got him to do it for me one last time today. After this, he won't be a student here anymore and so I would have to get the new librarians to take over the task.

Our Master principal, Puan Siti Arfah, was busy with administration work at the office when I took the pictures above. Actually she was doing two things at once. Encik Megat was giving her some form to sign when she received a an official call. I guess she will be very busy as our school is in the midst of changing into a fully vocational school come January 1st, 2010.

GATHERING OF 92/93 SMVSM STUDENTS

I had a call from one of the organisers for the gathering of the first batch of vocational students of our school. Ironic, isn't it? Our school will be changing back to a fully vocational school and now the first batch of students are holding their get together.
There will be a dinner from 8 to 11 p.m. at our school hall on Saturday night for the students of that batch. Read the information in the banner above to know more.

SENDING MY 'DARLING' FOR SERVICE

I am pictured with Cik Naimah from Toyota Servicing Centre. This afternoon, I sent my Vios for servicing after the car meter showed 33,000 kilometres on the road. My friends in Ipoh asked me why I did not send my car to the Service Centre in Ipoh as it would be more convenient. However, I told them that I am used to the people in Manjung. When I am there I get to meet with Encik Azran, the liason officer, and Su, the salesman who sold me the car. They have become my friends and this is the time I get to chat with them. I am also familiar with Miss Vani and Cik Naimah, the customer service staff there. Also, my friend Mrs Wong whose house is nearby came and kept me company while my car was being serviced. I would have been bored silly if I were to send my car for servicing in Ipoh.

MR NYANASEKARAN AND FAMILY

I met Joel s/o Nyanasekaran at the Pasar Khamis in Kampung Koh this morning. He was with his dad, mum and two elder sisters who had gone there. According to Mr Nyana this was the first time he went to that place. And to think I go there very often to buy plants for the Taman Herba.

LAST PAPER FOR THE TECHNICAL STUDENTS

The boys and girls from the technical stream sat for their Lukisan Kejuruteraan paper this afternoon. This is their last paper for the SPM examination and this marks the end of the Technical era for Sekolah Menengah Teknik Seri Manjung. Next year we will not be become a fully vocational school.

WELL DONE NURHAYANI ONN

Our Master Principal, Puan Siti Arfah bt Ibrahim, received the letter above from Kolej PTPL in Sungai Petani congratulating our school for nurturing a student by the name of Nurhayani Onn bt Muhamad Irwan Onn who was conferred the President Award (Pelajar Anugerah President) in a recent examination.
This is a real honour for our school as the principal of that college went on to express his hope that STESMA will be able to produce more such students who will excel in whatever fields that they undertake.
For your information, Nurhayani Onn who hails from Kedah studied in our school from 2006 to 2007. She was in PKEE6. On behalf of our school, I would also like to congratulate Nurhayani on her achievement and thank her for bringing honour to her alma mater.

PROTOCOL

Initially I had planned to go with Puan Bazuaniza to the PPD to send the NILAM certificates of our students for the District Education Officer to sign but unfortunately she is not feeling well today. Before that we have to type a covering letter to go along with the certificates and also we have to be formally attired when we go there. So Puan Bazuaniza will go alone to the PPD tomorrow to complete the task as I need to go back to Ipoh to send my Aunt Linda for her eye check-up before she goes for her laser surgery.

The library is open during lunchtime for the Form 5 students who live outside the school who wish to do some revision before they sit for their SPM examination papers.

Both Encik Sukri and Encik Mat Nasir took the opportunity to repair the faucets and the pipes in the lady teacher's toilet at the administration block this morning. See what trouble Cik Mat has to go through to get the work done. Thank goodness he is so slim and flexible.

NEGLECTED PLANTS

I wasn't very pleased when I went back to school today to check on the plants in the Herb Garden and Fruit Garden. Quite a number of the plants looked withered and a few were in critical condition. I was in school from Tuesday to Thursday and the plants were fine as I watered them and there was a lot of rain.
When I asked the janitors they told me that the labourers who were building the wall for the school was using the hose and they couldn't use it. Furthermore, they told me that there was rain. I think that is really a lame excuse. They could jolly well fill containers to water the plants since it is one of the task they have to do daily.
I have often told everyone that we have to treat the plants well because we would also gain merit by showing love to nature. I was actually quite upset when I saw the condition of the plants and called the supervisor, Encik Mat, to ask him to tell the workers to spruce up the Herb Garden and Fruit Garden tomorrow.

A BABY BOY FOR USTAZ SYED AND HIS WIFE

Congratulations to Ustaz Syed Sharim and his wife on the birth of their youngest son, Syed Ahmad Yasin on 25th November 2009. The baby weighed in at 3.7 kilograms at birth.

STESMA REVISITED

The new teachers and staff would not know who Cikgu Norlina Idris is but those who have been teaching in STESMA since 1998 would know her. Cikgu Norlina was in our Bahasa Melayu Department and was here until 2006 when she went on a transfer to Malacca.

She came back to Manjung for a visit when I met her this evening. I brought her to our school for a visit. She said there was so much improvement and there were quite a lot of changes. When she was here the Language Square or Dataran Bahasa was not built yet. She sends her regards to Puan Siti Arfah and all her former colleagues at STESMA.

PC FAIR AT SERI MANJUNG

There is a PC Fair being held at the Dewan Merdeka in Seri Manjung. I went there to look at some of the ICT equipment that they had for sale there. Cik Siti Mariam and her brother, Cikgu Zainal Hisham, Encik Samsuri, Cikgu Bazuaniza, her sister and daughter were also there.

UNFINISHED NILAM CERTIFICATES

Puan Bazuaniza and I went back to school this morning as we needed to finish typing and printing the NILAM certificates for the Form 5 students who achieved Nilam, Emas, Perak and Gangsa in for the reading programme. We will have to wait for Puan Siti Arfah to sign the certificates tomorrow and then send them to the PPD for the District Education Officer to sign before we can give them to the students. Hopefully, the boys and girls can get their certificates before they finish their SPM examination. If not they will have to get them when they come collect their result slips next year.

Anyway, we managed to finish the certificates by 1.00 p.m. and then both of us went for lunch at Ipoh Old Town Cafe in Manjung. Later we went to the Perodua Showroom to look at the new MPV called Alza. We will be going to school tomorrow to get the NILAM certificates to send to the PPD. Hopefully, we can also finish typing the letters of appointment for the Form 4 librarians and get Puan Siti to sign them as well. Then I can go back to Ipoh after having finished all the tasks.

Our boys and girls from the technical stream sat for their Additional Mathematics Paper 1 in the morning and Paper two in the afternoon. After the paper, they will be going back home to celebrate Hari Raya Haji with their families before coming back at the end of the weekend.

PAPER WORK

Puan Khairah and I came back to school this afternoon to prepare a working paper for upgrading the security and the infrastructure of the library. For those who do not know, our library was broken into twice this month. This is because there are no grilles for the windows and intruders can easily break in. Also the five foot way behind and in front of the library building is sunken and there are cracks which makes it dangerous. Therefore it is very important to get funds to put up the grilles as well as do the repairs needed for the building. I also asked Encik Zainal's help to come up with estimates for making the grilles and repairs to the building.

The above pictures show our students going back to their hostels or to their homes after having finished their Pendidikan Islam Paper II this afternoon. Cikgu Wan Yusaini, the senior assistant for student affairs, waited for the vocational students to come down from their examination centres and then asked them how they did for their paper.

Cikgu Mazlina tied the knot with Encik Mohd. Suhaimi, a teacher from S.M. Teknik Seri Iskandar, last weekend. Some of our teachers attended the khenduri at her house in Sabak Bernam. Unfortunately, I did not go as my mother wasn't feeling well. However, I managed to get the wedding photographs from Puan Kamariah Sulaiman who went with her family members.

It was rather quiet in the library this afternoon as the school holidays have begun. Only Naqib came to do his revision and Puan Khairah came to read the newspapers. Later Ustazah Roslina came with three of her children as she has some work to complete.

LEAVE THE FRUITS ALONE

The calabash plant in the Fruit Garden is bearing fruit and I have put up a sign to remind people not to pluck the fruits as we wish to dry the fruits eventually to make into water gourds. The first few water gourds would be kept so that we can use their seeds for replanting next year.

LIBRARY IS OPEN DURING HOLIDAYS

The school term may have ended for the year but the library will be open throughout the holidays. Form 5 students can come here to do their revision. The staff and teachers can also make use of the library as Puan Asiah will be working as usual. Ustazah Roslina, Puan Bazuaniza and I will be coming on and off to complete our work for the library as well.

SPRAINED ARM

I sprained my right arm a few months ago while trying to uproot a dead plant from the Herb Garden. Ever since then I have been having pains in that arm. The injury would heal after I take medicine or go for massage but then I find that arm get sprained again.

This morning Puan Latipah, our lab assistant, helped me massaged my sore arm. Hopefully I will heal completely.

CANTEEN HELPER

Puan Ros is the canteen helper who is in charged of preparing drinks for the teachers and students during school days. Besides that, she is also the one who does the calculation of the bill for the teachers besides Puan Rohana and Encik Salleh.

Our Form 5 students who are boarders attended a brief morning assembly this morning which was held at the school field. Puan Siti Arfah and Cikgu Wan were the two administrators who addressed the students.

LAST MINUTE TUTORING

Before Sharveen went into the examination hall to sit for his SPM EST paper, he went to Puan Kamariah's room to ask her to tutor him on some of the questions that he was unsure of. He is the only candidate in our school who is sitting for this paper.

PLUNGED INTO DARKNESS

At around 1.15 p.m. all the lights went out in our school. There was a blackout and we had to carry out our work in darkness. The lights only came back on at 3.45 p.m.

HISTORY CREATED DURING HISTORY PAPER

I am sure that all our Form 5 candidates will remember this day very well as they had to answer their History Paper II without lights or fan from 2.00 p.m. until 3.45 p.m. this afternoon as there was a blackout. History was created during the History paper. How poetic!

A SUB LEFTENANT COME A-VISITING

Puan Siti Arfah had a visit from Sub Leftenant Madya Wan Mohd Afiq bin Wan Mohd. Sallehuddin who was a student in our school from 2004 - 2005. He had no idea who I was and neither did I recognise him as I was reading for my Masters degree full-time during that period.
I was told that Afiq was the best National Service Trainee for his batch and we keep a record of his achievement in our school gallery. It seemed that Afiq who is attached to KD Indera Sakti of the Malaysian Navy went with his younger sibling to get the UPSR results today and dropped by at his alma mater to visit our Master Principal.

TO DO LIST

Puan Zainura and Puan Asmariza were discussing about the things that were listed in the To Do List given to the teachers at the end of each school year. The checklist would include things that teachers need to hand in to the office before they go for the year end holidays and also tasks they need to complete.

Cikgu Razak will not be with us next year as he has gotten a transfer to Sekolah Menengah Teknik Lebuh Catur. This is actually his last day here in STESMA as he has to go to Ipoh for some official business tomorrow.

INJURIES

As far as I know two of our students who are sitting for the examination have injuries because of accidents. The boy above from the vocational stream fractured his leg. There is another boy from the technical stream whose right hand is injured. And we have a girl who is sitting for her examination in the hospital because she has a back injury.

DAY 3 OF SPM EXAMINATION

This morning our students sat for their English Language Papers 1 and 2. Some approached the students approached Puan Kamariah and Miss Cheah to ask for confirmation about the format for directed writing. For your information, quite a number of our English language teachers are invigilating the SPM examination in other schools. Those involved are Tuan Haji Ahmad Hasnin, Puan Fatihah, Puan Hafizah and Cik Irma Suriani. Cikgu Sabri as usual was checking the body temperature of everybody.

LAST EXTRA CLASS FOR 5JER

Only 4 students came for my extra class tonight. This is because a few of the students wanted to do revision for Sejarah and a few were sitting for their examinations in other centres and are not staying in school.

Cikgu Ishak Salasa was down with the red eye disease or conjunctivities last week. He is much better now but his eyes are still a bit reddish.

SPM BAHASA MELAYU PAPER 1

Immediately after the students finished sitting for first Bahasa Melayu paper, Puan Khairah and Puan Bazuaniza were busy looking at the question paper to see whether what they taught had come out. From their happy faces, I could tell that they would have discussed quite a number of the questions that came out today with their classes.

RETURNING LIBRARY BOOKS

Immediately after they finished their History paper, these two boys returned the books that they borrowed from the library to do their revision. I guess they thought that it was best to give the books back to Puan Asiah instead of keeping the books until the end of the examination. Then they might forget to return the books and will have to pay a hefty find when they come get their SPM results next year.

REPAIRING ELECTRICAL DEVICES

The spring for the starter of one of the air conditioners in the library has come out and so Encik Sukri came to check on the damage. He will be repairing it soon.

DO THE BEST, BE THE BEST, YOU'RE THE BEST

"Do the best, be the best, you are the best", are inspirational words usually spoken by our Master Principal, Puan Siti Arfah Ibrahim, when addressing the teachers and students during the assembly or meetings. It is these very words that express the hopes of all the teachers and staff of Sekolah Menengah Teknik Seri Manjung for our Form 5 candidates for their SPM examination.

TEMPERATURE CHECK

After checking the body temperature of our SPM candidates, our examination secretary, Cikgu Sabri obliged the teachers by taking their body temperatures for them. I am happy to report that all that he checked had body temperatures of around 35 degrees Celcius.

PRECAUTION AGAINST VIRUS

All our candidates sitting for the SPM examination were given a mask each to wear in the examination hall. Their temperatures were also taken by Cikgu Sabri to ensure that everyone is healthy enough to be in the hall. If anyone is found to be running a fever, thenhe or she will be quarantined.

Our boys and girls begin sitting for their SPM examination paper today. A few of the students were seen doing last minute revision, some were getting tips from their teachers while others were waiting to enter the hall to do their level best so that they get the best possible results.

OFF TO THE EXAM CENTRE

This morning, I went with Cikgu Wan Yusaini and Cikgu Suhaimi to send 9 of our 5JER students to their examination centre in S.M. Seri Manjung. Syafiq, Azizol, Amirul, Aqumal, Akmal, Sofian, Atina, Safina and Siti will be sitting for 5 core papers there, Bahasa Melayu, English Language, Sejarah, Mathematics and Agama Islam. Rudy's centre is in Ayer Tawar while the two Hazwans and Nizam are at ACS. Amri's centre is in Pantai Remis.

DIFFERENT EXAMINATION CENTRES

Not all our students will be sitting for their SPM in our school. All my students from 5JER will sit for their examinations in two different centres. Nizam and the two Hazwans above will be going to ACS for their paper while the centre for the rest of their classmates is at S.M. Seri Manjung.
I met the three of them at a car accessory shop. Hazwan (the one on the left) was there to buy accessories for his car. It seemed that he had gone to fetch Nizam from Ipoh to sit for the examination.

Only a few of our students chose to do their studying in the library on the eve of their SPM. I was told that the rest preferred to study in the hostel. Anyway, it is up to them as what is important is that they feel comfortable and relaxed.

Cikgu Ishak Ismail is suffering from conjunctivitis. See his eyes are swollen in the picture. Actually they are bloodshot but you can't see it. The funny thing is that Cikgu Ishak Salasa is also suffering from conjunctivitis.

HERBAL DRINKS

Puan Bazuaniza, Puan Siti Rosnani, Tuan Haji Ahmad Hasnin are four of the teachers involved in our weekly sales of herbal drinks. We would take turns to make the drinks at home and bring them to school on Wednesday morning. Puan Bazuaniza's Honey Longan and Puan Rosnani's Kemerak Merah drink are very popular with the students and teachers. Tuan Haji Hasnin usually will prepare different types of herbs when it is his turn. I am happy to announce that we will continue with our sales next year.

Puan Siti Arfah bt Ibrahim, our Master Principal, requested for a special meeting with the Form 5 students on the eve of the SPM examination. ASK FIRST BEFORE TAKING

It is because of the rainy season that our plants are growing well. Puan Asiah and I would go and check on the plants in the Herb Garden and Fruit Garden every day. We hope that those who wish to take anything would ask us first before plucking the fruits, flowers or leaves.

Sometimes, I get very angry to find that some people have plucked all the fruits growing on the trees without asking anyone of us. I usually buy the plants from the nurseries or the Farmer's Market. For your information, the money I use to buy the plants is from Puan Siti Arfah, the sales of herbal drinks or me. There is no special fund for buying plants for the Herb Garden. Sometimes, some of the teachers donate the plants to us.

Our Ustazs and Ustazahs always tell everyone to make sure that the food that we take should be halal. They told me that this also includes how the food is gotten and so if it is taken without permission, then the food will not be halal.

Most of the teachers and staff will usually ask for permission and then write their names in the record book for our Herb Garden before they take anything from the garden. Then again there are people who don't. I think everyone owes this little courtesy to the people who bought and planted the trees and also looked after them.

There was a briefing by the chief invigilator for the teachers from other schools who will be invigilating and our staff who will be on duty during the duration of the SPM examination. The briefing was held in the school hall.

TOKEN OF APPRECIATION

The resource centre committee memebrs who were involved with the preparation and sales of herbal drinks for this year were given tokens of appreciation to thank them for their hard work and dedication. TWO DAYS LEFT

Our SPM candidates for 2009 have only two days left before they enter the examination centres to sit for their SPM examinations. I could see many of the students either reading or doing exercises everywhere I went in school. A few were waiting to photocopy some notes that they have gotten from friends.

During the annual lunch for 2009, all the teachers and staff were given a towel embroidered with the school badge and Sekolah Menengah Teknik Seri Manjung. Well, this will be the last time we get things with the SMTSM logo and name. Next year there will be a new badge and the Teknik will be replaced by Vokasional.

UNOPENED PRIZE

This morning Puan Nodiana asked me what I had made with the electric oven that I won during the annual lunch on Saturday. Unfortunately I had to tell her that I didn't make any cakes or cookies. For your information, I will be bringing it back to Ipoh when I go back this weekend. Then the baking will start.

A JOB WELL DONE

Our Quality Day cum Annual Lunch for 2009 was successfully carried out today. The teachers and staff had an enjoyable time. A big thank you to the staff development committee and also the KGKT committee members for all their hard work and contributions.

SECOND ATTEMPT

I went home at 1.45 p.m. today to have a change of clothes and reached the library again at 2.30 p.m. When I went into the library I noticed something was amiss and knew that there was another break-in. The intruder broke one of the windows in the Operations Room and twisted the wire netting to get in.

Measures have already been taken to prevent another break-in. The security guards have been told to patrol the place more often and the wiring has been repaired.

GOODIE BAGS

The members of our KGKT committee have been working very hard these few days to get ready the goodie bags and the prizes for the lucky draw for the Annual Lunch of our school which will be held at Orient Star Hotel tomorrow.

What you see in the two pictures above is the last batch of students in the technical stream for our school. After this our school will change back to vocational beginning 1st January, 2010.

NOT GOING AWAY

Our Abang Is will still be with us when we become Sekolah Menengah Vokasional Seri Manjung next year as he did not get a transfer to another school. I heard that he might be teaching Applied Science as Physics is not offered in the vocational curriculum. So we will still have the combination of Cikgu Zawawi and Cikgu Ishak in the examination committee. Hee! Hee! Hee!

BLOOMING BOUGAINVILLEA FLOWERS

Miss Ng is posing next to a pot of bougainvillea plant. We can see lots and lots of purple flowers on the plant. As a matter of fact, quite a number of the plants are flowering around our school.
