SCHOOL COUNSELLOR: EN ABDUL HAKIM BIN MUSTOR

On 15 September 2006, Encik Hakim Mustor the counsellor of Sekolah Menengah Teknik Seri Manjung was given an excellence award for the individual category in Guidance and Counselling by the Technical Education Department of Malaysia The award ceremony was held at Putrajaya. This award is proof that Encik Hakim has done much as a counsellor for the school to be given such recognition.

This affable teacher has been teaching for 26 years. He started teaching in 1980 after graduating from Maktab Perguruan Ibrahim Temenggong in Johor Baru. His option was Mathematics. He was first posted to SMK Kuala Kubu Baru in Selangor. Incidentally, his hometown is in Kuala Kubu Baru. Cikgu Hakim has taught in 4 schools including STESMA. He continued his studies at Universiti Pertanian Malaysia from 1991 to 1994 graduating with a degree in Guidance and Counselling. After graduating he was posted to SMK Kampung Suharto in 1995 as a full-time counsellor. Later he requested for a transfer to this school as he had bought a house here. He said that even though he has land in his own hometown but he prefers to live here as he likes to environment.

Encik Hakim is happily married to Puan Hajjah Fatimah bt Mat. They were married in 1984 and are blessed with 3 daughters, Intan Nadiah (21 years), Noor Siti Hawa (19 years) and Nur Latifah Hanum (16 years). His two eldest daughter is studying at UNIKL, MIIT while the second and third girls are in Upper Six and Form 4.

His hobbies are listening to music especially slow rock and jazz. He also likes to play table tennis and chess. He is a good table tennis player as he emerged the champion at the State Level Inter Technical School Games.

He tells me that his overall hope for the future is to be happy. On a professional level, he hopes to become an established writer. He has already published three books, "Pendidikan Selepas SPM" published by PTS Professional, "Halatuju Selepas SPM" published by Yusran Publishing and "Pendidikan Selepas SPM" published by PTS. In the works is a poster project on guidance and counselling which will be out in the market twoards the end of 2006.
