BMI
These past few days, I have been meeting people who are members of the uniformed bodies that are very fit. When I was at the naval base, I noticed that all the officers, especially the young ones were trim and fit and had flat stomachs. Likewise, the scenario was the same at the fire station. All the firefighters were trim and slim whether they were young or old. The above pictures Ustaz Lotpi and I took with two of the officers from the Manjung fire brigade will prove my point.
I was told by one of the officers at the naval base that all naval personnel must have healthy BMI's of 18.5 to 24. If they exceed the BMI, then they will be given notice to do something to trim down. So, it is either shape up or ship out. I am sure it is the same for the fire fighters.
For those who don't know what BMI is, you must be wondering what Miss Cheah is talking about, right?
Well, BMI stands for Body Mass Index. To know if your weight is within a healthy range which is 18.5 to 24. Let me give you an example how to calculate your BMI. My weight is 55 kilogrammes and my height is 1.66 metres. To get my BMI, I need to divide my weight in Kilogrammes with my height in metres squared - 55 divided by 1.66 x 1.66 = 55 divided by 2.75 = 20. That means my BMI is 20 which is within the normal, healthy range.
