OIL LAMPS
Lighting the oil lamps during the month of Ramadan takes quite a bit of effort from my librarians and I. Of course, we have help from Pak Din, the gardener. Each day, the boys take
turns to refill the kerosene in the lamps. They also clear the garden of any damaged lamps and also the containers and wax left from the candles that we also burn at night. They also have to change the wicks that have burned out. Let me tell you that the lamps use up a lot of kerosene. As a matter of fact, Miss Grace and I had to go and buy another 5 liters of kerosene from the petrol station this afternoon.
At night, the boys would come at 8.30 p.m. to help light the lamps and also keep a watch on the flames just in case of any fire. It usually takes us about 15 to 20 minutes to get everything lighted up. Then I have also gotten the help of the security guards to check on the lamps when they patrol the school at night.
