PUAN HAJJAH ZAMRUDAH ISMAIL
This petite lady from Parit, Perak started teaching in 1988. She obtained her teaching certificate and diploma from Maktab Perguruan Teknik (Technical Teacher's College). She majored in technical engineering. At present she is reading for her first degree in Electrical Engineering at the Open University (OUM) and is into her eleventh semester. That means that it will not be long before she graduates.
Her husband, Tuan Haji Mustafa Ismail also teaches in this school. Actually they were classmates as well as college sweethearts, having met and fell in love there. Both were first posted to Sekolah Menengah Vokasional Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah, Kuala Lipis, Pahang. This happily married couple have three children, Amirul Hafiz (15 years), Nurul Hafizah (12 years) and Mohd. Shahmi (2 years). I taught her son Amirul when he was much younger. He will be sitting for his PMR examinations in October this year. His sister, Nurul, will be sitting for her UPSR examination. So, this caring mother will be busy motivating her two elder children to do their best. She and Tuan Haji Mustafa will also be acting as drivers sending them for tuition classes and education camps. According to Puan Hajjah Zamrudah, her children are closer to her as she spent more time with them when her husband was away for three years studying for his first degree at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.
When she has the free time, she likes to read, not the heavy stuff but something light like romance novels. Her favourite colours are red and green. I had guessed even before I posed this question to her as I noticed that she likes to wear a lot of red and green baju kurung.
Both she and her husband went for their pilgrimage in Mecca in January, 2003.
When she completes her first degree, she plans to re-decorate her house and also spend more time with her sons and daughter. Possibly, she and Tuan Haji could try out for another daughter.
Puan Hajjah Zamrudah is very sporting as can be seen by the first photograph posted above. When she found that there was an egg competition for the English Language Carnival, she gamely tried her hands at making the egg stand and was successful. She also makes it a point to speak to me in English. She is a very hardworking and conscientious student. Because of the effort she puts in, her command of the language has improved. Believe me because I was also her MUET teacher.
