FINDING THE QIBLAT POSITION
Wanting to put up the Qiblat direction for my librarians who might want to perform their prayers in the afternoon, I went about looking for the direction. For muslims, it is a requirement in their religion to perform solat prayers five times a day. These prayers are ritualistic in nature and adherence to the ritual practice is required. The location at which one prays is not strictly defined as long as one is able to establish the Qiblat (this is the direction of the Ka'bah).
One conventional method of determining the direction of the Kiblat is by using a straight wood or any other object under the sun. The direction where the shadow points is the direction of the Kabaah or the Kiblat.
Even though I use the compass to check Feng Shui directions but I have no experience in looking for this prayer direction. Puan Kamariah Sulaiman had lent me her Qiblat direction finder and I got the help of Ustaz Zul to look for it. After doing a lot of checking and also using another compass, he finally came up with the prayer direction for the library. So next time, if you happen to be in the library and wish to perform prayers, you may ask permission from Puan Asiah, Ustazah Roslina or I to use the Operations Room to carry out your obligation.
