MISS CHEAH'S BIRTHDAY AGAIN???
You must be wondering, how this can be? Didn't Miss Cheah celebrate her birthday on the 17th of April? Well, don't be too surprised as I am not trying to be funny. Let me explain. For the Chinese people, we follow the Chinese lunar calendar which is based on the moon. Also, the Chinese calculate their age from the time of conception, that is, when the baby is formed in the mummy's womb. This would make a person older by one year if they calculate their age according to the Chinese calendar.
Each year, during my Chinese birthday I would go to the temple to ask for blessings and also to thank god for giving me the gift of life. Also on this day, I am taught to do good deeds and also to do charity work. That is why today, I made it a point to let my students in 5EN3 to express their love for their mothers by making Mother's Day cards. I have also made a pledge with Mr Nyana and Miss Grace to host a party for the orphans at Rumah Wawasan. After I left the bowling centre in Kampung Koh, I went to the Buddhist Temple there and also the Goddess of Mercy Temple in Lumut to offer my prayers and thanks to Lord Buddha and Kuan Yin. This is actually not a day for me to be thinking of getting presents or making merry. I hope that in a way I have managed to share with the students, teachers and visitors to this blog a little bit about my beliefs and culture.
