This morning I went to Sekolah Kebangsaan Lekir at Batu 8 after our principal telephoned the headmistress of that school to request that I, as the media teacher, make an initial visit to that school to gather information for the adoptive school project which is under the aegis of the Ministry of Education.
I reached the school a little before 10.00 a.m. and met with the headmistress, Puan Hajjah Che Puteh bt Hussin. After I spoke with her, I also met with their senior assistant for student affairs, Puan Zainon bt Kordi. She was of great help and gave me information about the academic performance of the pupils of that school. I was also provided with examination data, a verbal account of the social economic status of the pupils and also information about the school in general. Later Puan Zainon showed me around the school and I happily took photographs everywhere I went. I was delighted to see all the cute little children studying in the classes. Puan Zainon also showed me their herb garden and also a little plot of land where they planted some vegetables. When we reached the building for Special Education Programme, Puan Hajjah Che Puteh took over from Puan Zainon and introduced me to the special education teachers. There are nine teachers in this school who are charged with teaching the pupils who have some learning disabilities. According to Puan Zainon, they are mostly slow learners.
S.K. Lekir has its own website and the address is http://www.maxis.communities.com.my/sites/sklekir. I had a look at it and found that there needs to be some updating as the headmistress and senior teacher for student affairs have been newly posted to the school. I enjoyed my visit to our adopted school as the teachers were warm and friendly. I am sure that this adoption project will be a success given the enthusiasm of the teachers and students of that school. Also, knowing the STESMA teachers and students, they will give their best to help the 63 Year 6 pupils of the school to achieve academic excellence for UPSR 2007.
The first picture shows the headmistress of SK Lekir, Puan Hajjah Che Puteh bt Hussin. The second, third and fourth pictures are of the Year 6 pupils who will be the ones that our school will be planning some programmes for and the last picture is a front view of the school.
