TREAT FROM A STUDENT

I was treated to a meal by Khairil at around 4.00 in the afternoon. I was wondering whether he read my blog yesterday and if this was a belated birthday treat from him. But I am not one to turn an offer by a student down and gladly agreed to meet him and a friend of his at Strawberry Cafe in Sitiawan. He introduced me to his friend Matthias Newton who is a fifth former at ACS, Sitiawan. Khairil and he used to be former classmates. Believe me, Matthias is not very photogenic. If you see him in real-life he is a real "shuei ker" (in Mandarin that means good looking guy). I had a pleasant surprise when after the meal, Matthias stood up and I realised that he was a head taller than Khairil and I. Ei! I am not short, you know, I stand 1.68 m without shoes but this boy is 1.85 m tall (about 6 feet 1 inches). When I commented on his height, he reminded me that he had to be tall to be a district basketball player. Anyway, I noticed that both boys were very good friends and kept chatting away in Mandarin. It is good to know that they still keep in close touch even though they are no longer studying in the same school. I hope that their friendship will be a lasting one.

Know something, in the picture I am the only one who is pure Chinese. The other two have mixed parentage. But don't you think I look like their mother? Why? Because I too look like I have mixed blood.
