SAFETY FIRST

The plastic chairs in the library are 16 years old and slowly but surely they are coming apart. Just last week, Tuan Haji Hasnin's wife nearly fell when she sat on one of these chairs. Luckily she managed to maintain her balance if not I would have felt so bad if she got injured.

As a matter of fact, a couple of students had fallen down when the plastic seats came apart from the metallic frames. But thank goodness they were not hurt. When the officers from the PKG came to inspect the library in February, they also mentioned that the chairs did not look safe. I had informed Puan Siti Arfah and managed to get 20 banquet chairs to replace those that were in bad condition. However, there were still 48 old chairs that were also in rather bad shape. Today I managed to get another 18 chairs (see above pictures) from Encik Zainal Abidin. According to him, the chairs have been in the store for almost a year. Hopefully, we get to keep the chairs in the library and not be told to return them as they were meant for some other place. In the meantime, Encik Zainal said he will try to get me another 30 plastic chairs to replace the old ones by tomorrow. I discussed the matter with him and said that my main concern was for the safety of the students and teachers who use the library. I do not in any way want any one of them to be hurt after falling from one of the chairs.

The above pictures show Puan Mazlina, Puan Asiah, Ustazah Roslina and a few of the librarians removing the plastic covers from the chairs. Earlier the boys helped to send the old chairs to the storeroom near the PKEE workshop and then to bring the new chairs to the library from there.
