NENAS KERANG DRINK
This morning, Cikgu Daniel helped me to sell the herbal drinks as Tuan Haji Hasnin, Puan Rosnani and Ustazah had classes in the morning. One of the drinks we introduced to the students and teachers was the nenas kerang.
At first my students thought that I had boiled the pineapple with cockles to come up with the herbal drink. That was until I led them to the Taman Herba and showed them the Nenas Kerang plant we had there.
For your information, drinking this herb would help to detoxify the body and helps to keep ones skin clear. When it is drunk hot, it acts as a cough tonic. The Chinese use the fresh flowers and flower bracs by boiling it as a drink with brown sugar for reducing body heatiness, for the relief of sore throat, and heaty cough. The leaves can also be boiled.
Before I forget, one of my boys mentioned that he has that plant in his garden at home but that it is smaller. Well, let me tell you that there are two types of nenas kerang plant. The one I used to make the herbal drink is nenas kerang besar. I am not too sure if the smaller nenas kerang plant can be used to make a drink and so I told my student to play it safe and not try using what he has at home to make into a herbal drink.
