TYING THE DHOTI

The traditional garments for an Indian male comprise of the kurta and dhoti. The Indian ladies will wear the sari. During religious festivals like Thaipusam and Deepavali we will see many of our Hindu friends decked in their traditional costume.
Do you know that when tying the dhoti and sari, one does not use any pin? They just need to tuck the long piece of cloth in the waist.
This morning, Sharveen demonstrated how to tie the dhoti using my bear. He only used a piece of long cloth. Measured it to make sure that it is equal on both sides and then started to make folds on the right then tie the folds to the waist and then did the same to the left. Finally he took the folds and tucked them behind. Confused? Why not ask your Indian friends to give you a demonstration. I am sure they would be more than willing to share a part of their culture with you.
